Event Begins After Four-Hour Weather Delay
INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. (May 26, 2024) - The 2024 Indianapolis 500 got underway Sunday afternoon after a four-hour delay due to severe weather.
Start of the Race Delayed Due to Storms
The start of the race was delayed as a strong storm system moved through the Indianapolis area. The green flag was finally waved at approximately 6:45 p.m. ET, nearly four hours after the scheduled start time.
Weather Permitting, Race Could Finish Today
With the delay, it is possible that the race could finish later than expected. However, weather permitting, the race is still expected to finish on Sunday.
